Credit Union West is owned by its members and run by a board of directors you elect. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our members. The purpose of this notice is to inform you of our Privacy Policy. We are required by law to give you this privacy notice to explain how we collect, use and safeguard your personal financial information.

In the course of providing services to you, we collect information about you. Some of this information is nonpublic personal information. We do not sell your nonpublic personal information but we share some of the nonpublic personal information with our service providers and others in order to better serve you. We share your nonpublic personal information only with contractual safeguards to protect the confidentiality of your information.

Information We Collect About You and Disclose to Others

We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:

  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliate(s), or others including those companies that work closely with us to provide you with diverse financial products and services (for example: your account balance, payment history, parties to transactions, and credit card usage).
  • Information we receive from a credit reporting agency (for example: your credit worthiness and credit history).

We do not disclose nonpublic personal information about our members and former members to anyone, except as permitted by law.

In order that we may provide members with competitive products and services, we may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, to our affiliate(s), companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf, and to other financial service providers with whom we have joint marketing agreements. We may also disclose information about you under circumstances as permitted or required by law. We grant access to information about you to only those employees who need to know that information to provide products and services to you. The officers, directors, members of committees, and employees of this credit union are required to hold in confidence all transactions of this credit union with its members and all information respecting their personal affairs, except when permitted or required by state or federal law.

Credit Union West does not knowingly solicit or collect data from children and does not knowingly market to children online. We recognize the importance of protecting the identity of children. What is the purpose of the Privacy Policy?
The Privacy Policy outlines the practices and procedures Credit Union West observes to ensure the continued privacy and confidentiality of our members’ personal financial information. Effective July 1, 2001, federal regulation requires that all "financial" institutions provide notices to their members/customers concerning the privacy of non-public consumer information.

Does Credit Union West or any of its business partners sell member information to other companies for the purpose of solicitation?
No. Our policy has always been to protect the privacy of member information. For this reason, member information is only shared with business partners in order to process or service transactions, protect against fraud or comply with applicable laws.

Who does Credit Union West share information with?
Credit Union West shares member information with companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.

Why does Credit Union West disclose member information to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf?
Because Credit Union West depends on outside vendors to provide print services to facilitate member communications, we must provide them with member addresses. However, these vendors or other marketing service providers we use are bound by contract to use member information only for the purpose of Credit Union West business. You should not receive solicitations from any of these vendors.

Why does Credit Union West disclose the information it collects to other financial institutions? Is this legal?
Credit Union West shares information with business partners when necessary to provide services to Credit Union West that we are unable to provide ourselves. Financial Services West, Securian Financial and Stewarts Insurance, a sub-division of CUNA Mutual Group are some examples. These business partners are bound by contract to use member information only for the purpose of Credit Union West business, thereby ensuring compliance with federal regulation concerning privacy of non-public consumer information.

Can a member elect not to have their information disclosed for purposes described in the Privacy Policy?
No, because Credit Union West only shares member information when it is essential to providing services, such as when processing a transaction, protecting against fraud or complying with applicable laws.
